The story starts in media res which grabs the reader's attention but, then it reverts back to the history and setup of the expedition and starts to drag. Later in Antarctica the author wants to tie up all the stories of the different sub-expeditions but it hurt|From Booklist|Douglas Mawson is not as well known as Amundsen, Scott, or Shakleton, but as this intense and thrilling epic shows, he deserves a place on the pedestal next to these other great explorers of the Anta
